Elisha Weakley was born in 1838 in Shelbyville, Indiana. In 1861, he entered the military as a First Sergeant in Co. A, 16th Regiment Indiana Infantry. He served in that capacity for ten months before mustering out in May of 1862. He re-enlisted in December 1863 as a private in the 13th Indiana Cavalry. He became 3rd Sergeant in 1864 and Sergeant Major the same year. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in 1865. After the war, he returned to Shelbyville where he married and had two children. ...
